Dr. Rajeev Kumar received his Master of Social Work degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. He then pursued an M.Phil from the Central Institute of Psychiatry in Ranchi, where he furthered his specialization in psychiatric social work. In addition to scholarly endeavors, Dr. Kumar engaged in the social sector. Availing the UGC-Junior/Senior Research Fellowship, he obtained a Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur after completing his doctoral work on the relationship between HIV/AIDS and mental health problems. Research, consulting, and academics are Dr. Rajeev's areas of passion. Dr. Rajeev took an active position in the National Drug Use Survey (NDUS), which the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, NIDS, and AIIMS Delhi sponsored. It was the first survey of its kind to map the problem of drug use in India. During his tenure as a master trainer for the NDUS project, Dr. Kumar focused primarily on the capacity building of field investigators from Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim. The Indian government then introduced Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) in response to the 2019 NDUS report. Dr. Rajeev was designated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as the Jharkhand and Bihar States' NMBA resource person. Dr. Rajeev led a number of workshops and training sessions for the NMBA. Numerous research articles Dr. Rajeev wrote have been published in respectable international peer-reviewed publications. In the TISS Journal of Disability Studies and Research, Dr. Rajeev also serves as a consultant editor. Dr. Rajeev Kumar also covers journals published by Elsevier, Sage, and IGI-Global publishers as a member of their reviewer committee. At Ram Krishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (both in Ranchi), Dr. Rajeev serves as a faculty member and mentors students pursuing an MA/MSc in rural development. Thirty-six postgraduate research projects on women's empowerment, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, migration, and maternal health were supervised by Dr. Rajeev. The areas of expertise that Dr. Kumar possesses are research methodology, data analytics, PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal), issues related to substance use, maternal health, public health policies, women's empowerment, protection of children's rights, social legislation, local governance, food security, and tribal development.
